Buckingham Garden Centre

We are a family run garden centre that is well known nationally as a specialist for bare rooted hedging plants and young trees. The Garden Centre always has a good selection of shrubs and plants which are not commonly found elsewhere, together with a wide range of the more commonly sought after plants. Established for over 50 years, the Garden Centre has recently been redeveloped to a high standard. Our shop contains the largest selection of seeds and bulbs for miles around, together with garden chemicals, tools, garden furniture and many other goods. Outside we stock peat-based and peat-free composts, paving, fencing, timber decking, garden buildings and greenhouses, and a large range of pots, statues and garden ornaments. Our aquatics centre has a good reputation for their excellent quality tropical, marine and cold water fish. The Gardeners' Retreat, our coffee shop/restaurant, serves fresh home cooked food and is an excellent way to round off any visit to the Garden Centre.

AFTERNOON AT THE ORCHARD (2018 2ND EDITION) 17th February 2018
Woughton Working Party - from 1.00pm to 4.00pm (3 hours)

Join MSOG for their second edition of an ‘Afternoon at the Orchard’ for 2018, at their regular Winter Time of 1pm to 4pm.

In this second edition of 2018, our activities will cover:

• Formative pruning of the apple and pear trees in the New Orchard: shaping the trees to optimise their structure for fruiting and keep canopy centres open to light and air
• Winter pruning of the apple trees in the New Orchard: removing dead wood and crossing branches and removing unwanted twigs
• Collecting, labelling and logging the varieties of scionwood (one year old branches) from each tree, for the Springtime Scionwood Swap on February 24th
• Affixing new labels to the trees, to make it easier to identify them throughout the year

Dress warmly for working outdoors on this kind of late winter afternoon. Wear long sleeves and long trousers to avoid being scratched by brambles. Bring a hat to keep your head warm! Wear stout shoes or boots and bring along your own gardening gloves. If you have your own pruning shears, loppers, pruning saws or pole saws, please bring them along to use. The venue is the Woughton Orchards, Woughton on the Green, Milton Keynes, MK6 3BS. Parking is in Newport Road and generally meet up there at the start time.

Come along and join them for a few hours of enjoyable outdoor work, in a lovely orchard setting, with good company. Well-behaved children and dogs are welcomed to join in too. The orchards are a great place for youngsters to play and let off steam while their older family members work on the trees. Regular canine contributors, Medical Detection Dogs Kiwi and Lexi, also enjoy having willing volunteers to throw a ball for them!

MSOG will bring water, squash, tea, coffee and biscuits for break-time and then the day will be rounded off with a drink and chat at Ye Olde Swan.

It's free to come along and join in. Donations are welcomed towards the refreshments, or bring some cake or biscuits to share.
