AFTERNOON AT THE ORCHARD 15th JULY 2017
Woughton Working Party -
Join MSOG for their seventh edition of an ‘Afternoon at the Orchard’ for 2017, at their regular Summer Time of 2pm to 6pm. It's high summer now and they hope that the lovely weather we have been enjoying will stay with us for the occasion.
In this edition, the activities will cover:
• Restoration of the Plum Hedge (and you might find a few early fruits!)
• Clearing brambles and undergrowth from the floor of the Old and Far Cider Orchards, using scythes
• Cutting and raking up the grass in the New Orchard, to mulch around the fruit trees
These working parties take place on the 3rd Saturday of the month throughout 2017. The venue is the Woughton Orchards, Woughton on the Green, Milton Keynes, MK6 3BS. Parking is in Newport Road and generally meet up there at the start time.
Come along and join them for a few hours of enjoyable outdoor work, in a lovely orchard setting, with good company. Well-
MSOG will bring water, squash, tea, coffee and biscuits for break-
Dress for working outdoors on a high summer afternoon, but wear long sleeves and long trousers to avoid being scratched by brambles. Bring a hat and wear sunscreen to avoid sunburn! Wear stout shoes or boots and bring along your own gardening gloves and any of your own tools you want to use, such as grass rakes, scythes, loppers, pruning shears, pruning saws etc.
It's free to come along and join in. Donations are welcomed towards the refreshments, or bring some cake or biscuits to share.

SUMMER FIELD TRIP 12TH AUGGUST 2017
In 2017 MSOG county of focus is Northamptonshire. They are delighted to advise that their Summer Field Trip will be to New Creation Farm in Nether Heyford, a 'behind the scenes' visit to a rare survivor in the county -
It began life in the 1940s, established by Mr Alex Beck (a former WW1 pilot) at Heyford Hills Farm, where there was already a large orchard. Mr Beck grew and sold apples, plums, gooseberries and blackcurrents and employed the local community at harvest time to pick them.
In 1975, the farm was acquired by the current owner, House of Goodness Ltd (a company owned by the members of the New Creation Christian Community) and renamed New Creation Farm. Since then, a wider range of fruit has been planted and grown to meet modern needs and tastes and new complementary businesses have been established at the farm.
As well as growing and selling fresh orchard fruit, New Creation Farm now supplies locally-
MSOG look forward to finding out more and the itinerary is shaping up. Timings are TBC, but they hope to cover the following content during their 'behind the scenes' visit:
• Introduction to the New Creation Farm, its history, ethos and purpose, by Andy, their host
• A talk about the New Creation Farm and what it does, with an overview of the different complementary elements of the business
• A guided walk around the orchards and packing shed, with the associated activities explained and demonstrated (where practical)

• Fresh fruit, juice, honey and firewood available to purchase
• Refreshments and home-
There will be a small charge for the Summer Field Trip of £4.50/person, payable on the day.
To book places, please email us at MSOGChairman@yahoo.com and advise how many adults and children will be in your party. MSOG will advise the timetable as soon as it is finalised.
