Buckingham Garden Centre

We are a family run garden centre that is well known nationally as a specialist for bare rooted hedging plants and young trees. The Garden Centre always has a good selection of shrubs and plants which are not commonly found elsewhere, together with a wide range of the more commonly sought after plants. Established for over 50 years, the Garden Centre has recently been redeveloped to a high standard. Our shop contains the largest selection of seeds and bulbs for miles around, together with garden chemicals, tools, garden furniture and many other goods. Outside we stock peat-based and peat-free composts, paving, fencing, timber decking, garden buildings and greenhouses, and a large range of pots, statues and garden ornaments. Our aquatics centre has a good reputation for their excellent quality tropical, marine and cold water fish. The Gardeners' Retreat, our coffee shop/restaurant, serves fresh home cooked food and is an excellent way to round off any visit to the Garden Centre.

Nearly every plant can start from a seed and buying the best quality seed will give your sowing the best possible chance of success. We stock ranges from Thompson and Morgan, Suttons, Kings and Franchi seeds. We have the complete retail ranges from all our suppliers although more are available mail order from Thompson and Morgan and Franchi.

Franchi seeds is an old Italian seed company that started in 1783, and they are still a family owned company seven generations later. They are specialists in the less common seeds and have a fantastic ethos of donating all their old seeds to schools and other community projects.

We also sell Thompson and Morgan seeds, one of England’s more famous seed houses. Thompson and Morgan's roots began in a small garden behind a baker's shop in Ipswich in the mid eighteen hundreds, where a young William Thompson's passion for botany grew.

His specialty was growing rare and unusual plants whose seeds were sent from countries all over the world. Not only did it provide a sense of adventure for William, it also established friendships with such scientists as Charles Darwin, Sir Joseph Dalton Hooker and Sir Michael Foster.

From the back garden he moved to a nursery at the edge of Ipswich and then to an even larger one. Eventually there were three of Thompson’s nurseries in the town. Today Thompson and Morgan distribute seeds across the globe.

For over 200 years Suttons Seeds have been providing the hobby gardener with high-quality seeds that grow well. They are also proud to supply many British Royal Households, having held the prestigious Royal Warrant since 1858. This year Suttons are endorsing James Wong (who was with us for our Summer Festival of Fun in June). James has done many television programs and is bringing a new and enlightening philosophy to the industry.  “It’s not about growing unconventional crops for the sake of it. It’s about achieving delicious, high-yielding foods that are expensive to buy, yet easy to grow.”
