We are a family run garden centre that is well known nationally as a specialist for bare rooted hedging plants and young trees. The Garden Centre always has a good selection of shrubs and plants which are not commonly found elsewhere, together with a wide range of the more commonly sought after plants. Established for over 50 years, the Garden Centre has recently been redeveloped to a high standard. Our shop contains the largest selection of seeds and bulbs for miles around, together with garden chemicals, tools, garden furniture and many other goods. Outside we stock peat-based and peat-free composts, paving, fencing, timber decking, garden buildings and greenhouses, and a large range of pots, statues and garden ornaments. Our aquatics centre has a good reputation for their excellent quality tropical, marine and cold water fish. The Gardeners' Retreat, our coffee shop/restaurant, serves fresh home cooked food and is an excellent way to round off any visit to the Garden Centre.
In February 1970 the eleven acre site with outline planning permission was purchased and that was the beginning of 50 years of hard work, a great challenge. But with the help of their families and many excellent staff, Richard and Pauline have transformed an empty field with one dilapidated wooden shed into the Garden Centre you see today!
Richard’s father was running a nursery in Harrow, north west London, and after a few years he joined Richard and Pauline here. Their two sons were born in the mid-70's and spent much of their time using the Garden Centre as their play ground when not at school. Then, after finishing their education, left home. But the lure of an opportunity to join the family business was too great and they are now both partners at the Garden Centre bringing their different skills with them.
There have had many an ups and downs over the years but, now in our Golden year, we are planning a few celebrations involving staff, customers and, of course, family as Pauline and Richard are also celebrating 50 years of marriage!
