What conditions do Raspberries thrive in?

Pauline replies:

Raspberries prefer a neutral to acidic soil with cool most conditions.  Summer  fruiting varieties must be planted in a moist position, or somewhere where it will  be possible to apply constant irrigation as the naturally drier weather in summer  will badly affect crops if they dry out.  They do not mind shade as long as the  conditions are moist.  If the only available site is likely to become dry, autumn  fruiting varieties may fair better as conditions in the autumn are often moister.

As a general note in times when we are particularly concerned about our bee  population, the flowers are very beneficial to bees and other insects.
